about

Meg Fallin is an artist, designer, and aspiring art educator originally from a quiet little valley nestled into the mountains of Northern Utah. Her family raised her to believe in the honest magic of the nature that surrounds us, embraces us, and defines us everywhere we go. She inherited an undying fondness for animals, patience and mindfulness, raised on a farm full of all sorts of life. She spent most of her young life in the outdoors; hiking, swimming, skiing and exploring. She focused on portraying this ingrained appreciation by doodling away through high school, researching and drawing animals and micro-life; honing in on her passion for mark making all through school. Through her undergrad program, she discovered a love for fiber arts and textile design, which ultimately moved her to Dallas working previously as a textile designer for Loloi Rugs, and currently as a designer for BookBeau. While her heart will always be somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, she currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas, working also as a preschool teacher, focusing on instilling and nurturing mindfulness in both her students, classroom environment, and herself. She is passionate about participating in a low-waste lifestyle, reusing found objects and materials in new ways, and inspiring others to rethink how we see the world around us.

practices & scholarly interests

i have recently developed interests in the teaching strategies developed by Montessori and Loris Malaguzzi as i learn more about teaching and working with young people. i appreciate the promotion of environment as a learning tool.

as an artist, i am constantly inspired by the art of Caitlin Hackett (please see: https://www.caitlinhackett.com/) and how she sees beauty in all forms and aspects of life.

i am also secretly obsessed with the fiber arts of Sheila Hicks (please see: https://www.sheilahicks.com/) and her unique approach to capturing the attention of her audience through giant exhibitions and installations, redefining the term "experience" on a whole new level.

artist statement

as an introverted-empath, i ache to help others find moments of peacefulness and grounding.

our lives soar by rather quickly, and because of this, i find it's important that people search for little moments to press the pause button and absorb the world around us. i've spent much of my own time watching those around me fuss over issues that aren't worthy of their energy; and i've witnessed them become fragile.

as an artist, my work offers a momentary break from reality and encourages a moment of mindfulness within the body; to spark wonder within the mind, soothe the heart, and whisper gently to the soul.

teaching philosophy

as a teacher of young minds, i prioritize instilling selflessness and kindness in my students, along with practicing sustainability in the classroom. i find these most important when considering the aspects and characteristics of those in the future. by exploring new uses for common items, man made or from nature, i believe we are unleashing new waves of creativity in our students, as well as creating a gentler tomorrow.
